Nokka Casino Resort Norway.
Nokka Casino Resort sits where the Byfjorden meets the pine ridge above Bergen — a granite-and-glass casino estate built around one idea: that a night of serious play deserves a serious setting. Sixty gaming tables, four hundred and twenty machines, an eleven-suite penthouse deck, and a fjord that turns green and violet at midnight.
Casino and card tables
Nokka Resort takes its name from the old Norwegian-Finnish word for a ship's bow — the part of the hull that meets the water first. It was chosen by our founder, the shipping heiress Ingrid Solheim-Aro, who converted her family's timber-and-herring warehouse on the Bergen waterfront into a private gaming room for visiting captains and merchants in 1987. What began as six card tables and a single roulette wheel in a converted net-loft grew, over four expansions, into the granite resort that stands today: a building designed to look like it is being launched into the fjord, prow first, toward the mountains of Askøy.
Every renovation since has kept the same discipline: nothing gets between the guest and the fjord. The gaming floor runs along a curved glass spine so that even at the baccarat pit, you can watch the water change colour with the hour. Locals will tell you Nokka is the only casino in Scandinavia where the staff apologise for the aurora when it interrupts a hand at the high-limit tables — it happens more than you'd think, particularly between October and March.
Sixty live casino tables. Four hundred and twenty machines. One view.
The main floor is arranged in three curved tiers, each stepping down toward the fjord-facing windows, so no seat in the house is more than a glance from open water. Every tier is licensed and monitored under Norway's gaming compact for tourist-class resort casinos, with a dedicated compliance office on-site.
The Aurora Pit
Blackjack, baccarat, and punto banco under a low brass-and-glass ceiling designed to soften table noise. This is where the resort's highest-limit hands are dealt, and where our longest-serving dealers — several with over twenty years at Nokka — work the late shift.
The Roulette Terrace
Eighteen wheels, including four American double-zero tables for visiting guests who prefer the format, arranged around a sunken bar so spectators can watch without crowding the rail.
The Slot Promenade
Four hundred and twenty machines spanning penny reels to six-figure progressive jackpots, laid out along a promenade of dark timber salvaged from the original 1987 net-loft floorboards.

VIP lounges, invitation and application
Membership to the Bow Club — Nokka's VIP tier — grants access to three private lounges, a dedicated concierge line, and a separate elevator bank that runs directly from the underground valet to the eleventh-floor suites without passing through the main floor.
Qualifying play & entry lounge
Open to guests who play a minimum average of kr 5,000 per session across three visits. Includes complimentary valet, priority seating at the Roulette Terrace, and a dedicated host during your stay.
The Fjordroom
A private gaming salon on the tenth floor with two blackjack tables and one baccarat table reserved exclusively for members, plus a stocked cellar of Scandinavian aquavit and a private sauna suite overlooking the water.
The Wheelhouse
Our top tier: a single-table private room accessible only by member invitation, with your choice of dealer, bespoke limits, and a standing reservation at Solheim, our flagship restaurant, for the duration of your stay.
Nokka Points
Every machine on the Slot Promenade is enrolled in our points programme automatically — no card required beyond your room key. Points convert to dining credit, spa treatments, or a discounted rate on your next stay.
Solheim, our flagship dining room
Named for the resort's founding family, Solheim serves a tasting menu built around the Norwegian coast — line-caught cod, foraged juniper, cloudberries in season — designed by executive chef Aksel Rein, formerly of a two-Michelin-star kitchen in Oslo. Reservations are recommended at least a week in advance for guests not staying at the resort; house guests may reserve at check-in.
Beyond Solheim, the resort operates three additional venues: Dokken, a casual all-day brasserie on the ground floor near the gaming entrance; Skutevik Rooftop Bar, an open-air lounge with heated seating and unobstructed aurora sightlines on clear nights between September and April; and The Herring Room, a late-night snack bar built into the original 1987 net-loft, serving until 5am for guests coming off a long session at the tables.
212 rooms, and eleven suites that don't appear on the booking engine
Standard rooms occupy floors two through eight, each with a partial or full fjord view. Floors nine through eleven are reserved for our named suite collection, bookable directly through the resort's reservations desk.

Tickets can be added to any room reservation, and Golden Bow and Platinum Bow members receive complimentary seating in the front three rows, subject to availability.
The theatre's acoustics were tuned by the same Oslo firm that designed the concert hall at the Norwegian Opera House, and its lobby bar, The Green Room, opens ninety minutes before curtain and stays open through last call at the tables.
The tide turns nightly at Nokka

Our story
Nokka Resort AS was founded in 1987 by Ingrid Solheim-Aro, the third-generation head of a Bergen shipping and herring-export family, who converted the family's waterfront net-loft into a members' gaming room for visiting merchant captains. The name Nokka — an old dialect word shared across Norwegian and Finnish maritime communities for a ship's bow — was chosen deliberately: the original building, and each expansion since, is oriented to appear as though it is being launched, prow-first, into the Byfjorden.
Today Nokka Resort AS operates the resort, casino, theatre, and four dining venues on the same waterfront parcel, employing just over eleven hundred staff across gaming, hospitality, and entertainment. The company remains privately held by the Solheim-Aro family, with Ingrid's grandson, Mathias Solheim-Aro, currently serving as Managing Director.
Licensing & oversight
Nokka Resort operates under a resort-class gaming concession issued for tourist-tier casino operations, with an on-site compliance office that reports independently of hotel and gaming management. All gaming equipment is tested and certified by an accredited third-party laboratory on a rolling annual schedule, and the resort maintains a dedicated Responsible Gambling office staffed during all operating hours.

Responsible Gambling at Nokka Resort
Last reviewed: June 2026
Nokka Resort exists to provide entertainment, hospitality, and a genuinely memorable night at the tables — not to place any guest in financial or personal difficulty. Gambling should always remain a form of leisure, chosen freely and enjoyed within limits a person sets for themselves in advance. This page explains the tools, support, and safeguards we make available to every guest, and how to reach independent help if you or someone you know needs it.
Know the signs
Gambling can become harmful when it starts to affect finances, relationships, work, or mental health. Common warning signs include chasing losses with larger bets, gambling with money set aside for essentials, hiding the extent of play from family or friends, feeling irritable or anxious when not gambling, and borrowing money to fund further sessions. If any of this feels familiar — to you or someone close to you — we encourage you to speak with our Responsible Gambling Office or an independent support service listed below.
Tools available at Nokka Resort
- Self-exclusion: Guests may request voluntary self-exclusion from the gaming floor for a period of six months, one year, or permanently. Once registered, re-entry is refused at all gaming entrances, and the request cannot be reversed early by the guest's own request alone.
- Deposit and loss limits: For guests enrolled in the Nokka Points or Bow Club programmes, we can apply a daily, weekly, or monthly loss notification threshold that triggers a check-in from a host.
- Time-out periods: A short cooling-off period (24 hours to 30 days) can be requested at any gaming reception without providing a reason.
- Session reminders: On request, floor staff will discreetly notify a guest after a set number of hours of continuous play.
- Restricted marketing: Guests who self-exclude are automatically removed from all promotional communication and Bow Club invitations for the duration of their exclusion.
Our commitments
- We do not knowingly serve alcohol to a visibly intoxicated guest at the gaming tables, and floor supervisors are trained to pause play with a guest showing signs of distress.
- All dealers and pit staff complete annual responsible gambling training, including how to make a respectful, non-judgmental welfare check.
- No clocks are withheld and no guest is denied a request for a break, a glass of water, or a quiet room away from the floor.
- Guests must be 18 years of age or older to enter the gaming floor at any time, without exception, and valid photographic identification is checked at every gaming entrance.
Independent support

If you would like to arrange any of the tools above, speak confidentially with our Responsible Gambling Office at +47 55 30 14 90 (available 24 hours) or care@nokkaresort.com. All conversations are handled discreetly by staff outside of the gaming floor's reporting line.
